Browsing around the Wikipedia site, I found an explanation of the “Slashdot Subculture“
The Slashdot subculture is a mixture of juvenilia, sarcasm, deliberately bad jokes, tasteless nonsense and highly developed and artistic attempts to provoke outraged responses from other forum users, amuse them, or challenge their thinking on the popular Slashdot technology website.
Seems like those I know who read Slashdot don’t actually browse the comments. As for myself, I typically like to read them and knew about all of the various items of “culture” which are mentioned on the above link. I must admit, a well crafted troll makes me laugh from time to time.
