My New Wordpress Site

Sunday, May 23rd, 2004

I decided to give the WordPress a try for a new blog of mine on spooled.net which will essentially where I move all of my car and auto related content to. So far it’s tits!

I like that it’s all done in PHP.. it’s actually must faster than the MT, and it was VERY easy to setup. The sub-categories is the best thing evar!!!!1111 The install was very quick as promised, and it looks like Zempt still works with it as well. I’ll be glad when I get it all figured out and can start doing my own thing with it.

I’m sorry SixApart, but you lose.

I’ll probably have to get around to converting this site over to the WP someday. In the meantime, I have content to import over to the other blog, as well as the time to create a design for it. Although, I do kind of like the skin that is already there, so it will probably stick for awhile.

David Hasslehoff Does Hip-Hop

Saturday, May 22nd, 2004

Germans love David Hasslehoff, but will they love the hip-hop? Ice-T thinks so

The rapper - real name Tracey Morrow - told The Sun: “The man is a legend, we are going to show a whole new side of him.

“He’s gonna come out as Hassle the Hoff.

“The Hoff will surprise people with his rap skills and humour.”

Hassle the Hoff? That’s just fucking wack. Lets be honest, Ice-T was never that good either…

Eclipse 3.0 M9 Released

Friday, May 21st, 2004

I went to update my install of Eclipse today to give the new and improved CFEclipse a shot, and it looks like a new stable build has been released. The last time I tried out CFEclipse, I couldn’t get VSS Plug-In to work with Eclipse 3.0 M7 for whatever reason, which made my attempt futile as I need support for Visual SourceSafe built-in.

I’ll be interested to see how much CFEclipse has improved from the last time I used it, and hopefully I’ll get VSS integration working as well.

Best of Christopher Walken on SNL

Tuesday, May 18th, 2004

I just noticed that a “Best of Christopher Walken” compilation will be showing on Saturday Night Live this weekend (May 22, 2004). Get those PVR’s and Tivo’s fired-up, kids.

Here’s hoping they show one of the first skits (maybe even the first.. don’t know for sure) of “The Continental” from the early 90’s.. his fake mustache started falling off, he was soaked from “sha-pang-ya” because his date kept dousing him with it and slapping him, and he started totally cracking-up.. it was great. That was when I really started liking him.

Another classic was the Trivial Psychic skit… “You’re gonna get an ice cream headache. It’s gonna hurt really bad.” I’m sitting here giggling about that one just thinking about it. MUST RECORD SNL.

Supercars Are The Hotness

Monday, May 17th, 2004

Yesterday I went to my friend E’s for her graduation from her first round of many years of schooling as she’s working towards being a doctor. One of her friends who owns an AMG Benz was there (I wish for the life of me I knew what the model was), and we got to talking shop about cars as usual.

Shared object “libintl.so.1″ not found

Monday, May 17th, 2004

Every so often when I have to upgrade gettext for whatever reason, it seems to break pretty much everything. I had to upgrade it yesterday for some new software I wanted to check out, and suddenly Apache was whining at me with this error message:

Shared object "libintl.so.1" not found

Well if you’re going to be like that, I’m going to have to link your ass:

bash-2.04# cd /usr/local/lib
bash-2.04# ln -s libintl.so libintl.so.1

(I just created a link from the Shared Object it was requesting which it wasn’t finding, to one that did exist.)

Not necessarily the most pure nor non-obvious fix, but it does the job. Needless to say, my slight upgrade of Apache is now happy.

.NET Is Killing Java!

Wednesday, May 12th, 2004

Okay, maybe not.

A co-worker / Java Developer / fellow FreeBSD fan passed along an interesting link which gives facts, figures, and other information which solidly proves that Java is far from dead.

Thank Goodness: Friends Is Over!

Friday, May 7th, 2004

The NBC sitcom Friends has finally gone away. Unfortunately it doesn’t look like they have anything decent to replace it with, unless a “Joey” spin off is your bag.

Also this year, Frasier, and Drew Carey will be going away. I used to watch Drew, but I think it was rebroadcasted way too much, and it aged very quickly for me. I also used to watch Frasier, but it seems like every show is exactly the same.

I had been wondering, but it looks like Boomtown was canceled again late last year. Too bad, that was a good show.

While I’m at it, let me mention that there are very few Disney movies that I like.

Abandoned & Little Known Airfields

Friday, May 7th, 2004

I’ve pretty much always been into the planes and jets. Not so much anymore, but they still interest me. I think this website with a whole lot of abandoned airfields is pretty interesting.

So You Want to Ride a Motorcycle?

Wednesday, May 5th, 2004

With both the nice Spring weather, and the ever increasing price of gas, it seems like I’m starting to get a lot of queries about how to go about getting a motorcycle license, what bike to purchase, etc. Given that, I thought I’d put up a little post for aspiring motorcycle riders, slightly biased towards the metro Denver Colorado area. I don’t claim to be an expert at all about the subject, but here are my experiences and recommendations:
