Okay, maybe not.
A co-worker / Java Developer / fellow FreeBSD fan passed along an interesting link which gives facts, figures, and other information which solidly proves that Java is far from dead.
Among the interesting points made:
Java is probably the most widely deployed client platform today, and it is definitely the fastest growing computing platform - probably in all history.
Let it be known that I am somewhat of an OSS advocate and have been using Linux and FreeBSD (including sneaking it into production for Mail and DNS) for around 7 years now, but I also know every technology has it’s place and use. In fact, I’m planning on requesting to take a C# class as an elective for my Computer Science degree as it’s only available at the graduate level. I’ve only played around with C# a little bit at home, but don’t really have an informed opinion of it yet.
Mostly I get tired of hearing about how dead Java is by uninformed slaves of the borg, or that it completely sucks because of x. Although, the perception of ColdFusion to those who don’t use it is even worse I think…

12|May|2004 1no need to prove anything. java provides more money to more developers and companies than any other language. just look at the job banks.
with IBM, Oracle, HP, Nokia, Motorola, Sun, Apache, JBOSS,etc, etc ,etc behind Java, how exactly is Java going to be stopped from running on 90%+ of all computing devices within the next few years?
