Installing Derby on ColdFusion

After researching some other alternative solutions, I’ve been thinking about giving Derby a whirl in a project I’m currently working on. I was prepared to try to get it working in ColdFusion this evening and write-up a post about it. Before I started, I thought I should probably Google it to make sure I wasn’t wasting my time, and I found there was already a CFDJ article about it by Phil Cruz and Dick Applebaum.

I guess I can spend my evening doing something else. :)

    Hey folks, I realize the entry is from 2005, but in case some come along and read it after late 2007, let’s note that CF8 now includes Derby, built-in. See the docs or online help for adding DSN’s. It’s just provided as a new option, and the database engine is built into CF8 (all editions).

    Sorry, I meant to add this as well: there’s also now a group devoted to CF and Derby in the new cfcommunity.org site:

    which includes some discussions that point to resources for learning more.
