I’m sure I’m not the only one who has been tempted by the Harmonics laminate wood flooring at CostCo, right? My first dog did quite a bit of damage to my carpet, and the current one has had a couple of accidents (for having her for 1.5 years now, she’s honestly done really well), so in general the cheap crappy carpet in my place is pretty much shot. I’ve always liked wood flooring, and laminate flooring is supposed to be better with pets as far as not getting scratched-up is concerned. While doing research about it, I found a whole ton of information about the stuff you see at CostCo.
I’d say my takeaway from my research is that if you pick it up while it’s on sale, it ends up being only around $1.50 s/f INCLUDING padding, and overall it’s a pretty decent system. Sounds like it’s fairly easy to do yourself as well as long as you have someone there to help you cut pieces, etc, so you don’t have to get up and down all the time.

20|Jul|2005 1From my experience you want to go with a little higher grade. My first attempt was so scratched (before I was finished) that I actually ended up covering it again with carpet. Good insulation though!
I had a really good experience in another house with laminate flooring from Pergo Presto. Held up perfect with three large dogs. And it was a cinch to install. And the price was right. I bought it from Home Depot three years ago.

21|Jul|2005 2Pergo is the way to go. Rachel put it in the classroom downstairs over a year ago. The constant abuse of six lil bastards has not produced a scratch yet.

24|Jul|2005 3Yeah, I’ve read good stuff about the Pergo– if I planned on being here for awhile I’d probably go with it.
Really the only reason I’m looking at this stuff is because I know I’m going to have to replace my carpet, but I don’t plan on living here much longer (1-2 years tops). It does come with a 25 year warranty (and supposedly if you’re a CostCo member, it has a lifetime warranty, though I’d check with them beforehand if/when I get that serious about it). It would be cheaper than re-carpeting provided I did it myself, and I enjoy doing stuff like that anyway. Though I do know someone who installs carpet, so I’ll probably check with him to see what his prices are like…
Really I should just buy one box of it sometime and/or get a sample of it to see what it takes to scratch it up. From everything I’ve read about it, it looked like you should avoid the cherry flooring which was manufactured in Belgium because it scratched easily, etc, but the oak color was good stuff for the price.

06|Aug|2005 4I’m seriously thinking about Costco laminates (oak) and some concerns that the underlayment polyfoam. Is the polyfoam in the installment kit reduce the noise and insulate in very hot/cold months? Anybody have any experience with the noise reduction underlayment products? (Living in central TX)

I have couchs that the wife has slide across the floor and it is perfect. I nmy experiance from purchaseing the Hormonics floring it is a good product.

18|Sep|2005 6The Costco Harmonics is excellent. I have installed approx. 1200 sq. foot of the cherry in my house. Easy to clean and no flaws. I have 2 very large long haired German Shepherds who had destroyed the hardwoods from running. Tore up the hardwoods and the carpet in many of the rooms. Replaced with the Harmonics and everyone raves about the appearance. Don’t waste your money with Dupont or Pergo. I have used the Dupont cherry trim peices from Home Depot and they match perfect!

18|Sep|2006 28We installed the Royal Cherry over the weekend, and overall it was a very easy product to work with. The only problems we encountered were with the edges and surface occassionally chipping when we needed to use a pullbar to tap the panels in, and not the plastic tapping block.
We have 7 full boxes available if anyone is still looking for some.

18|Sep|2006 29We love the Harmonics Laminate Wood Flooring. We will, however, sell all that we have and buy the newest oak flooring from Costco OR purchase more of the premium oak if anyone has any left they’d like to sell. We need approximately 400 sf to finish our main floor area.
We have 2 unopened boxes and approx. 300 sf that has been laid that we would gladly pull up and sell if there is an interested party after that. Either way, we will continue to go with the Harmonics brand. It’s good stuff. Email - sammybgood@gmail.com

19|Oct|2006 36Opened boxes are pointless really. Depending on your location and your relative humidity. The boards from an opened box will swell, causing it to be hard or impossible to install. I wouldn’t waste my time or money on and opened box of materials.
As for quarters rounds or some other type of molding for around door casings. If installed correctly there is no need for them. All door casings should be undercut far enough to allow for about 3/16 of an inch of board to slip under.
The installation kit foam is not for insulating against cold or heat. It is used as a moisture membrance to keep moisture from coming up from underneath. When i say moisture though i am refering to small amounts. If your house has a pond underneath it, it will do nothing to stop that amount of water. It is also used to help quiet the flooring when it is walked on.

25|Nov|2006 45Seems like a lot of folks got caught by Costco closing out certain colors. I, too, have been had. I bougt the royal cherry about 2 yrs ago and as a typical do-it-yourselfer, I just got to installing the floor and ran 3 boxes short. I just removed a portion of the floor and finished my kitchen with a Quick-Step product (www.quick-step.com). Find a local dealer and you will most likely find a match. You will need to install a “T” transition piece b/c the T&G’s don’t match. Also, you can buy your trim and claner there as well and not deal with Harmonics and shipping. Also, be warned, some of Harmonics parts do not match the dwgs and customer service told me to find what I needed at any local dist…I have some left over Royal Cherry that was installed for about a month. It is in fine condition. You can use this, just let it acclimate to you house b/f installing. Respond if interested. Thanks

26|Nov|2006 46Having visited 7 costco’s over the Thanksgiving weekend, I have come to the conclusion that it can be a risky situation to use Costco, despite the great quality and pricing. It’s too late for me, since I’m almost finished with my project.
Most Costco’s do not have the Maple Cabin or Maple Select. What seems to be available a lot is the Brazilian Cherry and Oak (to a lesser extent) - perhaps due to taste or just over-ordering. The Costco sure have a lot of the new Bamboo hardwood flooring. So if you like these 3 colors, you are ok.
However if you’re doing Maple, Royal Cherry - be warned to calculate your needs and if the available boxes are not enough at your local 2 or 3 Costcos, don’t even start with the dependency on Costco Harmonics. There is no special ordering, interstore shipping or any support!
I have wasted my Thanksgiving learning this on my Maple Select — hope others have save their future weekends and projects by not repeating my mistake!
Be forewarned when using Costco laminate flooring! Great product but check first that you have enough before starting project.
Jill
26|Nov|2006 47I also need about 10 boxes of the Harmonics Royal cherry. I did my family room last year with it, and I love it and went back to get more because now I want to do my living room and entry way with it and it is discontinued. I have been all over trying to find a match with another brand and am not having any luck.

29|Nov|2006 48I have 5 unopened boxes of premium oak I willing to sale. I am located in Olympia, Wa. You can e-mail me at muenchow5@hotmail.com.

30|Nov|2006 49To Jill:
You can buy enhanced cherry by quick-step. It is manufactured by the same company that makes Harmonics. I have the two butted together with a “Tee” strip and you can’t tell them apart. The two brands do not connect because the joints are diff. If you use them in diff rooms, then you will not know the diff.
I did get a call from Bob and he has three boxes - I would have to dig for his number if you need it.
I have 4 boxes of Royal Cherry - 1 new, 1 used (installed for 4 weeks is defined as used but looks new), 1 box with cut pieces about in half, 1 box with cut pieces around a third the length. You have to cut them to fit and these will work - just a little spendy to ship. Let me know if you need them…
Thanks
Jael
04|Dec|2006 50If you are looking for the Cabin Maple, Brazilian Cherry or the Oak Harmonics Flooring, the Costco in Harrisburg, PA carries it. Last time I was there they still had a lot. Earlier this year we bought the Brazilian Cherry for our upstairs and it looks great and holds up great.
I hope this helps a few of you out.

09|Dec|2006 52I moved into a house with laminate flooring. I am going to remove it because of a preference. I have premium oak and after I have it removed, I was hoping to pass it on to someone. It seems like someone could use it for something. Maybe even a current floor project. I don’t like throwing things away and you can’t recycle the stuff. Anyone interested, email me at foursavages@acmenet.net.

14|Dec|2006 54I am currently looking for Harmonics Royal Cherry. I called Harmonics today and they told me that some Costco’s still had it in their system so I called Costco. They said it is not in their system anywhere and no stores have it. We have done our entire downstairs except for the kitchen. If anyone has extra boxes please let me know as we would really like to get this job finished and have all the flooring downstairs looking the same.

08|Jan|2007 63I stumbled across this board last night looking for info on the Harmonics Flooring from Costco. I saw the posts from so many looking for Brazillian Cherry and it got me a little worried about not being able to get enough to finish my 10 year old girl’s room. I bought all the local Costco had, and was assured they would get more for the sale next month. In the mean time, we decided to do something a little differnt and since my girl thinks it is so “awesome” I thought I would share it. She has a small room, and we are going to border it with the dark Cherry and lay one strip (47.25″ x 105″) of the very light Cabin Maple down the middle with the planks running 90º to border planks. Kind of a rectangle inside a square. You’re not supposed to line up the ends because it looks like sections, but in this case that is what we want. So if you’re short of the dark colored stuff and have an area you want to make “awesome” looking, you might be able to finish your project with stuff that is readily available. Now the 13 year old says she wants her room alternately striped light/dark when we do it in February. I am not so sure about that one!
Good luck!
PS - I am not a software developer or engineer, but thanks for letting me post on your forum.

No problem! This site used to be a personal blog, but I moved all of my personal content to another site. I left this post here because so many people seem to find it. I figured it wouldn’t be a big deal to leave it it here as a service as it seems to draw several comments per week.

Lisa
15|Jan|2007 68We are also in the Portland, OR area and also looking for boxes of “premium oak”.
From researching online, it seems the “premium oak” is the Quick-Step Classic 800 product in Select Oak (U784) but with the Harmonics label. If it is the same product, wouldn’t the T&G system be the same and the two should be compatible without at “T” transition piece?
Also, can Costco do anything to help people out with this situation?

25|Jan|2007 69I need 6 boxes of Royal Cherrie Harmonics Laminated floor to finish a room that i already started. This is an 8mm thick laminate. Also i found out that the same exact color and plank width is made by quick step however that plank is 7mm thick so those people that need to match the royal cherry color and plank width for a DIFFERENT room with a molding piece, quick step is a great match so consider it. The color is called “Cherry” by quick step and the model number is SFU007 Quick Step uniclick 700.

27|Feb|2007 82Good news, the mystery is solved for the “Premium Oak”. After taking a “premium oak” plank to every flooring store around, I found an exact match.
It is made by Columbia Flooring and is Columbia Clic in White Oak Way Natural (WOW301).
We have a 12 foot wide opening from our existing house to our new addition. We purchased 35 boxes to complete the addition and were able to simply continue laying flooring as if it were the Harmonics brand. You can not tell the difference - the sheen, pattern, color, etc is all the same.
We purchased the product online (floorshop.com) for $2.18 sq ft and picked it up at a local distribution warehouse so we wouldn’t be charged for shipping.
I hope this can help someone else…

28|Feb|2007 83Isnt the old premium oak and the current costco Oak similiar? The new laminate seems pretty close to the current ones.

19|Mar|2007 91We are looking at doing some home improvement soon and would like to use laminate in the whole downstairs area (about 940 sq. ft.) excluding the kitchen. Most of these areas are high traffic areas and I am concerned about how well the Harmonics laminate flooring will hold. The guy doing the install says he has never heard of the brand and would prefer Pergo or Armstrong.
Please advice, I am a novice at this.

20|Mar|2007 92Since Lisa mentioned Columbia Flooring I decided to check out their website. I’m going to agree that these Harmonics are made by them instead of Quick Step (they made the older Costco flooring). The installation directions at Columbia are almost word for word what is on the side of the Harmonics installation kit box. The photos are exactly the same. The directions for Quick Step are different. Good sleuthing Lisa!

25|Mar|2007 93I am in desperate need of 5 boxes of the Harmonic’s Premium Oak. I can see by this website a lot of people are in the same predicament as myself. We are trying to finish up a small addition and need the extra boxes, the new colors that Costco carries is either to blond or to red to match. Please email me if you have any boxes for sale. Thanks, Jill

30|Mar|2007 96Hi, I have found the PERFECT match for the Harmonics Premium Oak. It is the Columbia Clic, White Oak Way, Natural #WOW301. After looking at the panels I honestly believe it is the same stuff, made in Belguim, etc.
we are very pleased with the find. If you are in the greater Spokane, WA area you can call Bob Norwood at 509-747-2295. He is the one who ordered this for us.
I also notified the Northside Costco, in N. Spokane about the flooring. Good Luck to all who are still searching. If you are looking for other color matches I would still check on the COlumbia Clic. The locking systems is identical to the Harmonics.

31|Mar|2007 97Jill, thanks so much! We were short about 3 boards to complete a bedroom. I ordered the columbia clic and you’re right, it’s a perfect match colorwise and fitwise. Took about 3 days to arrive and my husband finished the room today.

02|Apr|2007 98We love our new flooring & so does everyone else that sees it.
We are looking for 6′ to 8′ (length) trim for our Costco Cabin Maple Pergo. We need about 40′-42′ total. Where is the best place to go for this? Home Depot has 4′ lengths but that is a LOT of shorter pieces. We’re near Corvallis, OR. Call us at (541)926-7693

20|Apr|2007 102Vista, California Costco has 26 boxes of Harmonics Premium Oak. I bought 3 yesterday (when there were 29 left) and it is just like the ones they were selling 2 years ago when I bought mine. The packing and item number, 695303 are the same, except it doesn’t say made in belgium. They fit perfectly.

02|May|2007 103I talked with Costco yesterday and they said a new coupon is coming out May 10, 2007. AND if you bought your flooring within a month of the coupon’s release they will honor it! Good thing I bought my flooring last Saturday! LOVE Costco and LOVE the flooring!
Melissa
04|May|2007 104the coupon that is coming out from Costco on May 10, 2007 is not for the Harmonics laminate, it is for the Golden Arowana Bamboo flooring which is regularly $46.99 and with the coupon you get $3 off.
Tammy
06|May|2007 105Costco told us that the coupon was only good for Bamboo. Is their a different coupon of the other flooring?

06|May|2007 106When I installed my costco harmonics laminate,
I had left some space from the wall.(upto 1″ at some places) Now, I am trying to put some molding to cover up, the space between the wall and the edge of the laminate flooring.
Can I just try screwing the molding to the laminate,
floor. I may have to drill holes in the laminate floor, and use screws shallow enough, since the laminate itself is not that thick. Does drilling holes near th edge of the laminate, make it fragile?
-thanks

13|May|2007 111We installed the Harmonics Laminate flooring from COSTCO. Our house cleaners promptly mopped it with Mop n Glo! Anybody know what we can use to safely remove the dull, white wax film without damaging the laminate finish?

15|May|2007 112Has anyone actually ordered the mouldings? I have tried the number a few times and got busy signals.
I am pretty sure this stuff is made by Quikstep, Eligna series. They have a cherry that exactly matches my braz. cherry. Checked on their trim at Great Floors, 7 ft piece of t-moulding is $45. I need 5. Add in some quarter round and end-moulding, cost will be more than the actual floor cost! Let me know if anyone has ordered from Harmonics and what the prices were.

16|May|2007 113Help!! I need 7 boxes of Harmonics Premium Oak # 695303. We put in the flooring about 2 years ago and we’re extending and need our floors to match. Costco advised that this particular flooring was deleted from their system - translation “discontinued”. Pls. contact me at surfinghime@yahoo.com if you know where I can get some. Thanks!

07|Jun|2007 117Michelle–
Try using a diluted vinegar solution to clean the residue off of the floor. I use the diluted solution to clean my Harmonics flooring and it seems to work better than any commercially available product. To be prudent, try a small spot in a less visible area in case there is some chemical reaction between the old cleaner and the vinegar.

13|Jun|2007 119I was reading (again after 5-6 months) these comments. I got to #65, grabbed the phone, and called Harmonics. I wanted the info on the trim pieces. I’ve done one bathroom, and will be doing a 2nd bath, kitchen, and laundry room.
They EMAILED me a PDF broucher, with pricing on the trim, and a bunch of other info. I would STRONGLY recommend anyone considering or currently doing Harmonics to call and request this info!

Also, here in Washington the Costco coupon is out for $5.00 off each box effective July 9-29.

30|Jun|2007 121Wow, with all the people who are still interested in the discontinued colors, you’d think Harmonics would make it again! We LOVE our Royal Cherry flooring, put it all over the downstairs and it has withheld two boys and a dog. We just had a water leak and need to replace part of our living room. We probably need about 6 boxes. We are in Florida, any onfo on how to get our hands on some would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
