If you want more encouragement, then you can check my <a href="http://krisreviews.com/reviews/pragmatic_programmer.html" rel="nofollow">review of Pragmatic Programmer</a> (hope it is ok to put this here) and try to get a copy of Code Complete, which is also a very good book about similar subjects. You should definatelly read this book, don’t wait, reading only a summary doesn’t really give the really usueful information that are in the book.
