I’m sure I’m not the only one who has been tempted by the Costco Harmonics laminate wood flooring at CostCo, right? My first dog did quite a bit of damage to my carpet, and the current one has had a couple of accidents (for having her for 1.5 years now, she’s honestly done really well), so in general the cheap crappy carpet in my place is pretty much shot. I’ve always liked wood flooring, and laminate flooring is supposed to be better with pets as far as not getting scratched-up is concerned. While doing research about it, I found a whole ton of information about the stuff you see at CostCo.
I’d say my takeaway from my research is that if you pick it up while it’s on sale, it ends up being only around $1.50 s/f INCLUDING padding, and overall it’s a pretty decent system. Sounds like it’s fairly easy to do yourself as well as long as you have someone there to help you cut pieces, etc, so you don’t have to get up and down all the time.

So, if I am going to need enough vintage cherry to do an entire downstairs, I’d better stock up on it in advance. Right? Anyone have experience with the current style vintage cherry with backing over concrete, and with dogs?

Can I install this over linoleum flooring? If so, do I still need a moisture barrier?

Some of the comments here are funny. Harmonics is made by Mohawk and is similar to Quickstep, quickstep used to make it for Costco but since Mohawk bough Quickstep, Mohawk is the supplier. Mohawk and Quicksteps name used to be on the package. But note if you order any accessories it will come with a Quickstep label on it.
I am a licensed contractor in Tucson AZ, http://www.tucsonazflooring.com, I used to do inspections for manufacturers and I tell you this is the best laminate for the price and it has the UNILIC locking mechanism on it which is the best locking mechanism in the world, thats why lots of companys pay to use the petent, UNILIN has the patent and UNILIN was the parent company or Quickstep.
Also, NO laminate manufacturer warranty’s laminate for floods or topical water intrusion into the seams! You can buy a sealer for the seams in wet areas ie kitchens, bathrooms.
Chips can happen on any laminate especially the corners if tapped to hard!
All floating floors expand in high temps, read the installation requirements.
Pergo Presto INO is junk, the seams peak because of the inferior end joint locking design.

I have 9 boxes of Brazilian Cherry that I purchased and never installed in a 3rd bedroom. We have it in the rest of the rooms and it is working out great. My wife would prefer carpet in this last room if anyone is interested.

Either my expectations were too high or the product”s performance is too low. In less than 8 months we now have three spots on our flooring (probably put down nearly 900 sq ft of it) that have bubbled due to mysterious formations of water (OK, it’s related to pets). The bubbles form at the edges when water penetrates. And it seems to take very little time for this to occur. Well, overnight- but, really? am I to stay up all night just in case my pet has an accident? I busted my butt to install this stuff, not to mention the dollar costs, and I’ve VERY disappointed. Don’t do like I did and brush off the warnings about water damaging this stuff- IT WILL, AND IT _DOES! We’d read many comments of people saying that they just “wipe” up anything and never have a problem- hm… We’re in the real world and this stuff just doesn’t cut it. Now we’re stuck looking at this cheap crap for years to come (esp now that the economy is continuing to decay). If you live out in the country, like we do, go with the vinyl planking or something that can withstand water. Rainy country + Rural + Pets + Laminates = FAIL! NOTE: product was installed early 2011 (it’s now mid fall 2011)
