I’m sure I’m not the only one who has been tempted by the Costco Harmonics laminate wood flooring at CostCo, right? My first dog did quite a bit of damage to my carpet, and the current one has had a couple of accidents (for having her for 1.5 years now, she’s honestly done really well), so in general the cheap crappy carpet in my place is pretty much shot. I’ve always liked wood flooring, and laminate flooring is supposed to be better with pets as far as not getting scratched-up is concerned. While doing research about it, I found a whole ton of information about the stuff you see at CostCo.
I’d say my takeaway from my research is that if you pick it up while it’s on sale, it ends up being only around $1.50 s/f INCLUDING padding, and overall it’s a pretty decent system. Sounds like it’s fairly easy to do yourself as well as long as you have someone there to help you cut pieces, etc, so you don’t have to get up and down all the time.

I had Costco’s Harvets Oak laminate floors professionally installed in a large living room, dining room, and conmnecting hall and a few weeks after the installation the panels in the hallway buckled up and a pasrt of the living room also did the bsame. Yes, it is beautiful stuff, but if Costco or harvest Oak will not refund then i spent a lot of money for nothing.

We’re having terrible luck with our Harmonics flooring that was installed two years ago. There have been a variety of “water issues”, some more major than others (i.e., hot water leak to a simple spill of a small amount of water). The flooring needs repair throughout. I’m wondering if our install is to blame or if the product simply doesn’t hold up well. Right now, we’re selling the house, so we’ll repair. If we were to remain in the house, we’d pick something totally different. In two other houses, Pergo products did NOT have these issues. Is Harmonics that inferior or is it a fluke?

Beware! I would not buy flooring from costco again. One week they have pallets full of xyz flooring, and the next week they can’t locate a single box anywhere, and tell you it’s been discontinued. If your ever need replacements you might end up on a blog asking the world for the’re leftovers like me. Not the most durable product either, but good for low traffic areas.

Is Harmonics laminate flooring made in China?
By Chris March 21, 2011 - 1:06 pm
Just installed and have to say it’s worth the cost. We used the discount coupon and saved about $400. Installs easily and seems to be pretty durable. I do suggest though, getting an installation kit like this one: http://amzn.to/ibMB6v I made (and destroyed) about 6 custom ones made out of chunks of 2×4.

Beware…. Do not install in Park Model Homes in Arizona.
We purchased some Harvest oak Laminate from Costco 2 years ago, we did our living room , kitchen and hallway. I was a qualified flooring installer for 18 years. I followed the instructions that was in the box. After a while the floor started to peak and the corners are seperating from the planks. Costco said that we had to get in touch with Harmonics. They sent a inspector to look at the floor and after his report they said that this material should only be installed in a lived in , air conditioned year round place. We live here only during the months of October to April. They said it was not installed to their standards and would not honour any warranty.

Regarding James’ remarks a few comments back:
I am speculating, but it comes with some education, that the issue is temperature and humidity levels. The lack of climate control for 5 straight (and presumably quite warm) months of the year will result in inhospitable conditions for any plank flooring. It was unfortunate that James learned the hard way.
Wood and laminate floors function well in houses humans are comfortable in. If it is too hot/cold or too moist/dry for you, your floor will feel the same way. Sorry about the tough break, James.
